Asking for help has never been one of our strong suits, but my family and friends have convinced us to accept help at this time and I'm not afraid to say that we could use it
The Caplan family has seen a lot of medical issues and financial losses in their 55-year marriage, but their love and devotion to each other have kept them going. Now, approaching their 80s. Brian Caplan has had many medical problems starting with the first of many heart attacks at the early age of 24, followed by two cardiac by-passes (1983 & 1998), diabetes, pacemaker- defibrillator, COPD, CMT, and now 4 stents over the last two years to help the angina that comes from just walking from their apartment to the curb.
I am sure I left something out.
The most important thing to know at this time is the financial crisis they are in now, high credit card bills and unpaid medical charges.
They had a car bought in 2004 and thought that it would last them until death. Not so. Seven months ago the 2004 Hyundai blew a head gasket. With no money to fix it, now stuck in their one-bedroom apartment feeling isolated and alone, with being only on Social Security income, (they had lost all their money in the 2008 crash of the stock market), they have been using their credit cards to buy groceries and such via home delivery.
Now with their credit cards maxed out, they are forced to declare bankruptcy and to ask for help to buy a used car to get to the store for food or even to Goodwill to buy a pair of pants and shirt. Home delivery just works so much, medical appointments have been canceled and missed because medical transportation has been so unreliable.
The generosity of those who can donate to help this family in these tremendously difficult times is greatly appreciated. Your support, thoughts, prayers, and donations will help overcome their financial needs in their so-called Golden Years. THANK YOU... the Caplan's
